Description

Another bundle of Sky Crawlers fan-made planes as requested by :icondumbrarere: , made under special conditions we've arranged between us ('cuz I no do commissions, FYI).

Since I made the poor guy wait an absolutely criminal amount of time for this (because absolutely everything ever decided to get in the way), I decided to bandage the wound by coloring this bundle o' planes and throwing in some paint schemes and decals/insignias as extras ('hope ya like 'em, Dum ;) )

As always, a few notes I feel I should leave here:

Ascender II

- As requested, a P-55 Ascender with a contra-rotating prop, with some artistic liberties on my part, namely moving the vertical stabilizers to the wing tips and turning them round (all mimicking the Colt Peacemaker plane from game-of-epic-win Crimson Skies) and adding two wing-mounted Hispano-style cannons.

- Also I took the liberty of designing a personal spin on the USAF roundel (it's tricolor Red, White and Blue because America ^^)

Senryu AWACS

- GOOD, GOD, it was hard to find references for this thing. I had to resort to Youtube vids for this one which, sadly, weren't too keen on being highly defined, so this might bear some errors on the details.

- Anywho, Senryu with an AWACS dome mounted on, here it is, 'hope you like it. ^^

- Because I assume from what I've been told that this thing should fly in the days Sky Crawlers gets its first jets whizzing about, I imagined this AWACS as being pretty first-generation, hence why the dome is connected to the plane by several supports instead of one which also connect it to the on-board instruments.

Me 207

- A Heinkel He 162D Volksjaeger by another name, as requested, with artistic liberties mainly down to the engine being a cross between an He 162D's and an He 162B's.

- In the armament department, I envisioned the Me 207 as having 4 MGs in the nose instead of cannons and mounting either Heavy Cannons or Crimson Skies-style Beeper/Seeker Missiles under the wings (think the Bullseye from the Resistance series, the Beeper rocket is a Tag Bullet and the Seeker missile is every shot fired after a Tag hits an enemy). I drew the Me 207 with Heavy Cannons mounted on because I specifically saw them as being mounted close to the main body and also because I quickly came to think of the Me 207 as more of a bomber-killer than a dogfighter, so I thought to myself, in-universe, Me 207s would get Heavy Cannons mounted on them frequently to the point where every other Me 207 in the air would have them.

- Because you didn't mention any details on the Dark Nations Union's roundel, I decided to make my own. I went full ham German with it and made it by splitting open a WWI-era German roundel and fitting a Balkenkreuz into it. Initially both crosses were Black, but then I thought it looked too black and too Luftwaffe and changed the outer cross to Red.

Itaru

- A Northrop N-9M Flying Wing with two contra-rotating, three-bladed props and lots of guns, 'hope this was more or less what was asked for.

- It was requested this thing have MGs in the nose and Cannons in the wings, but, as I was drawing it, I more and more saw the Itaru being fitted with Bombs and Heavy Cannons under the wings (thinking in Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces terms over here), so I decided to pull its "base" Cannons closer to the center, I hope you don't mind, Dum ^^;

- This one ended up having an eye-catching paint scheme. It was supposed to have a paint scheme along the lines of those commonly sported by Ki-61 Hiens but it ended as something I cannot see as being standard, so metinks, if you decided to keep this paint scheme, only an Ace would fly around in these colours.

Caravan

- Since I had near total liberty to come up with this one's design, the Caravan ended up being a mix of several planes, namely having the body and wings of an Avro Lancaster, the "Greenhouse" nose of a Heinkel He 111, the cockpit of an Ilyushin IL-4, the vertical stabilizers of a North American B-25 Mitchell and enlarged and elongated versions of the engines of the Nakajima Ki-49 Donryu.

- It was asked that the Caravan have big, bulging wings where fuel would be stored, but, when coming up with the design, I decided instead to place two "secondary" fuel tanks at the roots of the wings bulging out and rearward, rather than being "in" the wings proper. I hope that's ok.

- I envisioned these two outter tanks as being connected to the main, larger one stored inside the Caravan's main body, but each also having its own refueling hose so, in case of an emergency, one Caravan could refuel three planes at once.

- The "Greenhouse" nose is intended to act like an observation deck of sorts, where a radio operator, a navigator, a gunner and possibly a dedicated observer would be stationed. I imagined Caravans, taking cues from the movie and from the plane's chosen name, as performing their refueling duties as staggered groups, so the crew in the Caravans' noses would observe and keep an eye on each other to let each other know more accurately where their receiver planes are and if they need to make course corrections, as well as keeping an eye out in the sky for any Rostock troublemakers.

- Armament wise, it has two MGs in the nose, one Cannon in the back japanese bomber-style and one American-style ball turret with four MGs in the underbelly more or less directly under the cockpit (not drawn 'cause the wing covers it)

- In case you can't read it (the letters are supposed to look like they're smudged with oil), the decal's inscription reads "Up for a sip?"

- The color scheme for this one ended up being a weird one. I intended to mimick the light green tone of WWII Russian bombers, but my scanner decided to act up and the image came out in a much lighter tone then intended and now looks almost toy-like, it's supposed to look a lot darker, trust me.

- Additionally, the section of the wings where the outer fuel tanks are located are painted yellow to serve as a visual aid for planes coming in to receive fuel, so they can align from farther away more easily. Since I see Caravans as flying deep in friendly territory most of the time, I would think they can take that liberty without much risk.

- The end result was a plane that, to almost comedic levels, looks the part of a plane you'd see in an old arcade game. It's Lancaster levels of big, too brightly coloured and has two yellow sections that just scream "weak point - hit for massive fireball". I do hope at least the design looks ok.

Alrighty then, that is all, I hope this meets its expectations Fingers-Crossed - NaNoEmo14 Day 12

Stay awesome, DA ;D
