Sky Crawlers plane artwork - Rostock Shougu

Description

My plane artwork collection gets its third member with the addition of the RAF Shougu.

Third fits this post like a glove, because, out of the three first planes I drew, this one was the one whose final drawing I liked the least, which is a shame since the Shougu is one of my favourite planes in "Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces" in terms of visual appearance.

This was the first plane (of possibly many) where I effectively ran out of "decent" sources and had to resort to paused youtube videos to get an image of it to work from. The result is there for all to see, starting with the fact that the proportions are a bit off here and there...

But, I tried my best to work with what I could find and present something minimaly decent, and I think it looks close enough to the original Shougu to be minimaly comparable, so I don´t have that many regrets. ^ ^ ... though those I have are murdering the "Artist-me" violently with kitchen knives. :fork: X____X

Well, enough of that, movin´ on :movingon: :

Name: Shougu

Operator: Rostock Air Force

Type: Fighter/Interceptor

Overview: A small, lightweight fighter, the Shougu is built specifically for speed and maneuverability, though that comes at the cost of reduced armament and lighter armor. This makes the Shougu a bit tricky to fly for rookie pilots, seeing as it is more lightly armed, more fragile and suffers from a noticeable drop in stability when compared to more "standard" fighters like the Suiga. However, in seasoned hands, the Shougu has plenty of high speed sustainable maneuverability to offer its pilots that, when fully harnessed, makes this fighter nearly impossible to keep up with, much less shoot down. Though having just below-average armor and armament, the Shougu´s raw flight capabilities far outweigh its shortcomings, making this small sized fighter more than a match for any of its Lautern opponents when properly handled.

The Shougu´s high speed makes it suitable for an "interceptor" role, while its impressive maneuverabillity makes it a more-than-able dogfighter.

Notes:

- Some fans compare the Shougu to a modified real world Grumman F8F Bearcat with the side vents of a Westland Wyvern.

- Like the Suiga, no Shougus are seen in "The Sky Crawlers" whatsoever, which makes it likely that it was phased out along with the Suiga when the Sanka Mk. B became widespread.

- Unlike the Suiga, and nearly every other Rostock plane except the Senryu, in "Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces" the Shougu is flown by both adult and kildren pilots in the Cougar/Cheetah Squadron, being used by both the player and kildren like Hiroto "Break Shot" and Niya "Pascal".

Well then, this one´s over and done with, onto the next.

Stay awesome, DA ;D
